Christmas Holiday Recipes And Decor

Christmas holiday recipes have been a tradition in our family for years. Do you associate cooking or baking during this special season with your festive decorating? I come from a long family line of traditions.

A wonderful blend to this special season is to take baked goods, culinary dishes, and create some matching colors for your family and friends. How? Think about all the different foods we make during this festive time.

Tiramisu, Italian Dessert
I remember growing up how our home had the aroma of so many different baked goods. My mom loved to bake and I think a lot of it came from my grandmother. Back in the early and mid 1900's, people baked out of pure necessity.

Oh how I remember walking through the garage at my parents house after Tom and I got married, and seeing the tin cans of homemade fudge and penuche. There were also tins of Pin Wheel cookies, rum balls, fruit cake, filled cookies, and pecan sandies. Mum, my mouth is watering just thinking about all of these delicious treats.

Fantastic Recipe Book with a wide variety of different cookie, breads, and other holiday delights. Great gift idea and one you can be sure will put a smile on your family and friends faces.

As we walked in the house the smell immediately hit us of homemade beach soup in the pressure cooker.

Not only were there the garage delights, inside we would peak in plastic containers to see my mom's homemade holiday sugar cookies and gingerbread men.

Christmas Ham
My dad was the ultimate decorator during this festive season. It seemed every spare space was taken up with brilliant colors of red and green, green, gold, silver and blue.

The combination of my mom's cooking and her baked goods, with my dad's different color themes, gave our household a well balanced, relaxing, and memorable holiday all around.

Today, I like to bring a combination of color in food with the decor of the season. Starting with the Christmas place setting, on the table, to all the surrounding holiday colors in accents and accessories.

With both of girls living on their own home, Tom and I do take a little time together we attempt to make sugar and ginger cookies from my mom's recipes. Well, the result isn't the same, but the fun of making cookies together and memories of the past, bring smiles to both our faces.

We would love for you to share your own Christmas holiday recipes below.

It doesn't matter what holiday you and your family celebrate, time is given in food preparation for parties, meals, appetizers, and desserts. Just send in your recipe and feel free to share your own story.

I love the holiday season and especially decorating in my own style and decor.

Mom's Sugar Cookie Recipe
  1. One and a half cups of sugar
  2. One half teaspoon salt
  3. One fourth teaspoon nutmeg
  4. One cup shortening - my grandma used lard
  5. One egg
  6. One cup sour milk with one teaspoon of baking soda
  7. Four to five cups of flour
I love these metal R & M Christmas Ornament
Cookie Cutters
. Great reviews on them and an awesome gift for that special baker or yourself. Get in the holiday mood early and be ready to bake some ornament shaped cookies.

Roll dough on floured board. This is where you can play around with cookie cutters and have the whole family involved. You can use sprinkles or wait until cookies are done and frost them with your favorite icing.

My mom never frosted her as we savored the taste of each bit. A key to the flavor is the nutmeg. She always said to never over work the dough, as the cookies will be tough, and not melt in your mouth. Below are some photos of different holiday foods.

Ah, all the preparation time during the holidays of cooking and baking. It may be grandmas cooking, or Aunt Bettys, or your sisters, brother, or friends. Tell them how thankful you are during this wonderful season or any other time of the year. A great idea is a gift card for an evening of wonderful food and relaxation. A delightful gift for that special cook or baker.

Feel free to share your favorite holiday recipe with us. Feel free to send a photo also. We look forward to reading and tasting your holiday treasures.
